8-7-2018. Loveland, Colorado weather has the thunder storm question each afternoon. It's a possibility but you may or may not get rain. I heard thunder so I parked my ElliptiGO under an awning by Lake Loveland, after getting a few sprinkles 2 miles before. Just noise. I went riding though the Benson Sculpture Garden and it started to pour! I stayed under a big tree for a while until the rain stopped. Rode again and got my ElliptiGO filthy on the 10+ miles back home. It was delightful.
I'm amazed at the extent of the California wildfires. Where I live in Colorado each evening and morning there's an orange cast to the sun and its projected images due to a smoke filled atmosphere caused by prevailing winds from California. During mid-day in Colorado's high country the valleys are filled with a bluish-grey hue and a hazy sky.
Good luck to California. I know that their fire fighting forces are the most knowledgeable and experienced in the world. Hopefully, California's weather will produce some fire retarding precipitation soon.
Lovely pictures, Patricia. I saw that some areas of Colorado (I think) had some awful hail.
Our weather is like much of the rest of the country hot and sticky. I won't mind the September days, but, as always, I don't care for what comes after those delightful September days.
Last night I came home from the Y a sweaty mess. Rick had dinner ready for me. We had dinner and generally I'd hit the shower right after. Last night, instead I just sat on my deck until it got close to dark. Hummingbirds, chickadees, gold finch and more were flying around. I was just enjoying the evening. It was still humid but there was a breeze. It didn't matter that I hadn't yet showered, Rick was inside the house.
I heard 20K people are under an evacuation order in Orange County. Hope they are not around your house, Patty!!
Yeah, I've been keeping up on that mostly through Facebook groups of my OC area. Those people are on top of it with their memory of the year before I bought my house there. There was a huge fire that was very close to the homes. This Holy Fire is moving east over the mountains and down towards Corona and Lake Elsinore. The people evacuated are on the eastern side of the fire where my house is on the western side. Ricky said it was super smokey today so he headed to Huntington Beach. I don't think he's going to get out of it entirely. Smoke usually settles at night and then the heat of the day lifts it up again. I've had the experience of that mostly up at my 5th wheel in Kennedy Meadows.
Here's one post from Facebook:
OFFICIAL OCFA UPDATE:
As of 10:30 a.m. on August 9, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) remains in unified command with the United States Forest Service, CAL FIRE Riverside, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The fire continued to burn throughout the night. The current acreage is approximately 9,614 acres with five percent containment. Mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect for the areas of McVicker Canyon, Rice Canyon, Horsethief Canyon, El Cariso, Rancho Capistrano, Blue Jay, Indian Canyon, Glen Eden, Sycamore Creek, and Mayhew Canyon. More than 20,535 residents have been placed on mandatory evacuation. Highway 74 remains closed in both directions.
I have CAL.GOV Fires bookmarked on my computer. The Carr fire in northern California is really bad: 177,450 acres - 48% contained, as of August 9th, 11:57 AM.

Gary, I've got to imagine you already are familiar with finding fires burning in Colorado but just in case, I found this:
I understand there is some effect here, but I've not seen it. Today was spectacular - felt like Sept. About 80 with low humidity and a nice breeze. I had brunch outside with a friend.
That has been one upside of all the rain, it kept the air scrubbed of the western smoke.
In fact the smoke may have made the rains worse by providing seed particles for the rain.
