Default Vinyl or wood?

Seems like it is time to paint the house again. A number of my windows need to be replaced and a lot of trim too. The wooden sills and trim boards do not hold up well after fifteen or more years. Interestingly, the clapboard siding looks fine and holds the paint well. I may just have the trim painted this time.

So what is siding your house and what do you think of it? Any changes planned?

Bill.

Cedar shingles, no paint. Trim is "coiled" (not sure why I think that is the word) or covered with vinyl or aluminum...not sure which, but no painting. Just the way we like it.

Edit: The shingles are 20+ years old and likely will need replacement in the next few years.

I have a big plastic house. It will stay that way until the invention of the plastic solar siding still in development. Maybe ten years away until I turn my house into a big battery.

I would love to put wood clapboards on my house but the thought of maintaining them kills it for me.

Vinyl sided, with vinyl trim and vinyl-clad wood windows. It is (power)wash-and-wear.

Our home is stone and stucco, and former owners covered 90% of exposed wood with aluminum (old window trim, soffits, rafter ends). Unfortunately, the "covering" also hid the nice "craftsman" details of these items.

In view of the above, I answered the POLL on behalf of our cottage, which is the original 1920 "German" wood siding. It has always been painted and will be REpainted in the next 12 months....overdue by a year or two.

Neither. Our house has stone, brick, and HardiePlank siding. This is a composite that is cement based, but will eventually require re-painting (it is 11 years old, and still looking good!) It looks just like wood, but doesn't have all the bad features of wood siding. I would recommend it for anyone thinking of re-siding their house or building a new one.

It seems my poll is tragically flawed. Who knew one could build homes from stone and brick and plaster?
