patty,
I had to live on prednisone for about a month.
like you i had hives as an allergic reaction.
the medrol packs can make you feel superhuman and give you the munchies like you won't believe.

but it's worth it, if you feel much better than it will tell the doc you have an inflammation.

The fact that RA tests don't show up the RA id not unusual, even in my wife's severe case they were not indicative. That your sed rate is in the normal range is because the inflammation is still at a low level.

The ibuprofen will help with the inflammation but does not arrest the RA. For that he probably should prescribe Plaquenil.

It is important that the RA be treated aggressively in the beginning. That may even drive it into remission. Once you have RA it will not go away permanently.

Keep exersizing the joints to keep them mobile. The RA itself does not cause crippling but pain and the rsulting lack of exersize can.
I got a call from Dr. Chang this morning. The CCP test (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide IGG) test came back and indicates I am positive for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr. has prescribed Plaquenil. My right hand was killing me last night, keeping me up for hours, so just this morning I started the Medrol pak. I will not take any more of it, but will pick up the Plaquenil today. Doc says it can take 4 to 6 weeks to take full effect. I am optimistic that it will help me.

Thanks, Herman, for the information. I will keep it in mind to keep on keeping on. I love to wash my car and have an exercise routine (that I'm out of right now ), but if the pain will lessen a little, I will be back at it.

Jerry, I don't want to use the Medrol pak since I feel like a different icky person on that stuff. The doctor warned me about the munchies. I'm already up to a high weight right now. I don't need to add to it.

Sorry to hear that, Patty. RA can be tough, but glad to hear he has started you on some medication that will hopefully help.

Hang in there!

Knowing what you're up against is half the battle.

Let's hope the medication start showing itself quickly, even if full effect takes a while.

I was afraid I was going to have to try to convince the doctor that I really do have aches and pains. I'm glad that part is over so I can work on dealing with what I have.

It's all downhill from there. IF the pain is really bad, give that Medrol pack another thought. Again, it's a short course, and probably not a very high dosage. You'll get relief much sooner; and while Jerry and some people get the munchies when taking it, I never found that to be an issue for me.

Better Living Through Drugs

Sounds like a new thread title. But wait, this is Vintage. I think we cover that in our off topic posts, all the time.

Patty,

Hope the meds help. Did the Dr. think the climate change had an impact?
