Default Does anyone else have "etchings"?

Hi. I'm gonna have to face the fact that I have about a one inch "etching" on the hood of my S2000. It's kind of sad. I'm not the type to go for any kind of polishing or buffing machines to fix up these things. I just need reassuring that these things are a fact of life.

I mean, a car is not like a fine piece of stereo equipment. A fine piece of stereo gear can be kept under glass in the living room. A car is a machine that hits the road and faces all kinds of debris and conditions. I can keep it clean and waxed, but I can't keep it perfect.

So, I have a one inch area of etching in my hood. Anyone else?

What type of etechig are you refering to ? Water mark etching. These can be removed by hand with a good polish - scratch X for example?

I assume it was a bug crushed against the hood while I was driving.

Just a quick question: Is it advisable to put touch up paint on etchings in the clear coat?

If it is a bug then this can be removed by bug and tar removal products or a clay bar. (if you do clay then please polish and wax afterwards - as the clay bar will remove all protections)

Etchings; water etching can be removed by hand or machine polishing if they are not too deep - otherwise they will need to resprayed

I've had a bug platter etch itself into the paint. It's just a part of the car now.

got pics? etch repairs usually require polish, but it depends on the severity of the etch and whether it really is an etch. can you feel the edges?

Come on Purple Haze! Don't reside yourself to the fact of etchings yet! Like mentioned above, at least give Scratch X a whirl or maybe go to a detailer if you don't want to do it yourself!

If anything, you'll have a shiny car that might make you feel better about the etchings anyways...

Taking off the Knute Rockne hat, let's see some picks and fix this little problem...
