i just had to do this with my wifes bmw cloth top...
brand new so she hadnt protected it with raggtopp yet-

had to detail the car at midnight since we discovered the damage at night.
you did the right thing by getting the egg off as soon as possible.
some chance for damage- first thing that i would try on your car would be vinylex.
soak a rag and get a lot of product on the top. a new toothbrush or top brush would be a good tool to work the product into the stain. then wipe off - i would wipe it down twice.
then report back.

you are lucky the eggs didnt hit the paint. they will cause "targets" in the paint (the area where the egg hits cracks the paint in tiny circles around each other).

2002 you have a couple years or build up on the top....

soak the spot... clean the whole top feather in out where the egg starts
or you WILL and a lighter spot where the egg was

try not to scrub... maybe a soft tooth brush... gently clean the spot

good luck
