Engine Wash...?
Hey guys, my s2k's engine is kinda dirty.
Really only the intake manifold is. Kinda spotty and idk what it is.
I tried a spray specificlly made to clean the motor and nothing really cleaned up.
Any help?
I don't want to dress up my motor and have it all dirty :l

I use simple green on mine. I hose everything down, spray simple green and let it soak for a bit, scrub any parts that may be heavily soiled, then rinse it off. I use a leaf blower to blow any standing water out from places I cant reach with a towel. Once everything is dry I spray Black Magic on everything and give it a good wipe down. I'm sure there are different ways and products to use that may be better, this works for me without breaking the bank.
There are some really good DIY's for cleaning the engine bay.
Also check out this guys thread. He used Chemical Guys degreaser.. really did a great job cleaning up the engine bay.

Once you get it clean, its easy to keep it that way. This has been the easiest car ever to keep the engine compartment clean. I wipe it down every time I wash the car. I use the microfiber cloth I just used to dry the car with. Its damp and perfect for wiping away any dust.
Both of my S2000's have color imperfections on the intake manifolds in different places. I think it's just the way they are cast.
If you can post a picture of what you don't like we'll be able to better help you.

been looking to refresh my guy under the hood but wondering if it is safe to do so.. @TomSolo, what precautions do you take before you spray things down under the hood? some pics or even a video would be truly grateful.
side note, is there a way to get super caked on brake dust off rims (silver ssr type c's)? every time i wash my car i feel as if i did a crappy job.

On a cold or warmish engine (never hot! with the hood open and a fan running on it, it takes about 40 minutes for the block temperature to drop from 200* to 120*) I cover the battery, fuse box, and alternator with plastic bags, then mist the engine bay with a 1/20 dish soap/water solution. Agitate with a soft brush on the areas that need it. Then a light spray with the hose to rinse. Blot up as much water as you can with rags. Then spray with 303 or other dressing and let it sit for ~10 min. Wipe clean again, and run the engine with the hood closed for the final dry (don't forget about the plastic!).
