Just completed a wash, iron x treatment, compounding and polish with dual action polisher and a ceramic coating followed by car pros reload. It pops and I was able to get the surface scratches out. 9 hours of work but it was worth it.

didnt need to to actually bc the paint was in good shape to begin with. Iron x takes out the deposits in a less invasive way than clay.
IronX is used to remove bonded iron particles. Detailing clay is used to remove iron (albeit not as effective as iron x) and other bonded contaminates as well. If you had to skip a step it would be ironx over clay bar. Clay bar is crucial. Here's a helpful article.
Too late now bc the ceramic coat is on and cured. Hopefully the paint won’t peel right off since I missed a step. next time around I’ll have to add that step. Honestly I think previous owner did a hell of a job bc the iron x didn’t even turn purple like it should if there were contaminents. If forgetting to clay is the worst thing that happens to me today then life is pretty damn good. Enjoy the new year!
