Default How to maintain a wheel with an adonized lip

I got my SSR Professors a couple of days ago and there was a warning on it that stated that the adonized lip is not compatible with chemical wheel cleaners of any kind and that it is easily damaged by road salt or other melting agents. I guess i cant use my Meguiars wheel cleaner? Should I just use my car wash soap and then put a layer of wax on it?

Thanks,
Tony

tony-
yes, use your car shampoo on the wheels as long as they aren't trashed out!
be sure to use a rag or sponge that you dont use on the body- i use my old lambswool mitts that i use on the body when they begin to get worn for the wheels. once used on the wheels, they never see any other part of the car.
wax is prob o.k., but it wont last long- the heat of the wheels will evaporate it fairly quickly.
i suggest wheel wax (that is the product name) or a synthetic (i like zaino) for your wheels... my recollection is that wheel wax has a website that explains how it works to repel brake dust= or maybe i am remembering a report from properauto.com
if you need more info, just let us know!

Thanks for the info wanabe. Before i knew that the adonized lip needed care as such i already bought wheel cleaner and a brush to use. What do you think if i used this brush on the wheels. It suppose to be okay?

I heard about the wheel wax too. Suppose to be real good and resist brake dust build up. I might give that a try. For now i plan to wash my wheels every 2 weeks. Is that too excessive?

tony- that brush looks like it would be fine.
as always, with a new tool- take your time and test a small area first before concluding that it is the right one.
washing your wheels every 2 weeks is not excessive- some wash every week!
i just hit mine with a small california duster (meant for interiors) that i use only on the wheels every few days and follow that by a detailers spray. i can go for several weeks with freshly detailed looking wheels.
