How do you avoid getting the alternator wet?

I fold up a piece of card board and lay it over the top of it. you can use a plastic bag too...

Some water is OK lots of water is not.

Or use some foil. The foil is easy enough to mold around it ect.

I personally use a bag, I have never used the foil, never thought of it, but I guess that would work good also.

I was going thru some of my s2000 pics when I first got it, I found one with how the engine looked like before I bought it. I'll re post the clean engine again so you guys can see before and after shots. You can see that the guy who had it before me, really didn't think much of keeping the engine clean. Actually, the first time I saw the engine, it almost stopped me from buying it, lol I'm glad I did though, all it needed was some tlc.

I just cleaned my engine bay this past weekend because of this post. I used the greased lightning orange and CD2. I myst say, it looks amazing. Thanks for the inspiration.

im gonna clean my engine, which btw, looks like it hasnt been clean since it was bought (137,000 miles now). question i have for everybody. what components after covering the fuse box, alt, and map sensor area, do i cover? Will the greased lightning orange cleaner work with this type of damage? or is there something a little stronger but still safe to use?
