Newb questions. Detailing Tools and Carpet Dye
I'm trying to fix my car up. It was recently stolen and recovered. My carpet was damaged and my paint was scuffed up pretty good by the tow truck driver from the impound lot.
My first question is.. What buffer and pad shoud I use to buff out the stuffs in swirls on my car. I've had it professionally done once but I'd like to give it a try on my own.
Secondly... I have grey carpet that was cut. I was thinking I've always wanted black carpet and I was wondering how one goes about changing the carpet to black with carpet dye. Any dye recommendations? I'm going to take the carpet out of the car and repair the cut and install some sound proofing material so I figured it would be a good time to dye the carpet.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Any do's and don'ts on detailing a black car would be great too.
Thank you in advace for your help.

Any pics of said damage, to help us assess the situation?
its great you wanna try this on your own.
The Porter-Cable is a great machine to learn on, and our forum sponsor sells them, with the pads and polishes you'll need to do the job.
He has some great supplies, and anything you need to detail a car.
As far as the carpet, I have never dyed any before. Try an automotive parts store and see if they sell carpet dye. Should come in an aerosol can if I remember correctly. I would say try it on an old piece of carpet to see if it works, before spraying down the carpet from your car. Don't wanna go all aout, then it not look right or not like it.
good luck and keep us updated!

The carpet cut is near the kick panel on the driver side only about 4 inches long. Looks to have been cut with a knife so I dont think it will be a problem fixing it and with the carpet possibly switching to black it will be completely invisible i hope.
The Porter-Cable eh.. Is that something that I can get from a hardware store like Sears or is it a specialty item only?
