when did you clay last?
you dont need to clay every time you wash it!
if you clayed recently, spend the time on another coat of protectant...
(btw, good excuse!!)

car has always been garaged and honestly, the paint is buttery soft and smooth. i was thinking i still probably could hold out on the clay bar.

what you think anime?

depends on your finish and how happy you are with it. If it's smooth, buttery soft, glossy and you're happy with it, leave it alone.

If you feel grit, can see or feel embedded grime that doesn't wash off, etc. then maybe clay is a solution.

There's always the plastic bag test... Place your hand in a clean sandwich baggie and drag your fingertips lightly over a freshly-washed and rinsed, but wet and soapy surface. If you feel grime or grit, claying will remove that and your shine and reflections might improve marginally (or substantially, depending on how bad it is, sounds like it's not bad), but you'll need to reapply your wax or sealant to clayed areas.

So yeah, it's up to you but it sounds like you're in good shape.

glad to help! FWIW, I clay my car about once a year. It is garaged nightly, but it's my daily (and winter) driver, so it appreciates the light cleaning that clay provides.

I've moved on to a spray body solvent (Detailer's Pride) to remove tar spots and stuff stuck on the rocker panels, IF I plan on starting over with my LSP, as it WILL remove basically everything off the paint. Clay *will* remove wax, maybe half a layer of Zaino or equivilent, but it's always good to retreat the areas anyway.

Of course, nothing beats a good wipe down with Prepsol/3M Adhesive Remover I did that the other day to strip the ~10 layers of Zaino and start fresh... SO glad I bought a respirator.
