Default Polished Wheels

I was wondering if any of you guys have used the various wheel polishers on the market, and if any of them are worth taking the time to use. I have a set of Volks on the S and the lips could use a little bit of polishing, nothing major. Just trying to see if I can get them to look a little better without spending a ton of money.

Volk lips are clear anodized. Oxidation settles under the anodization. None of the metal polishes you purchase at an auto parts store will work. They need to be stripped, repolished with a cloth wheel and compounds and then re-cleared. It's unfortunate that Volk finishes their lips this way.

ubetit-

check this out and let me know what you think...
what i think is that it might be worth trying- not expensive and he doesnt have much to lose- worst case would not be much worse than where he is now. as always, test in a small area first.

A the point that the lips start to tarnish and stain i don't think there is anything to lose. I wish I had a Volk to try it on.

cool... we agree
also noted that he only has minor issues- am wondering whether they might not yet be oxidation and maybe a non agressive wheel cleaner could work.

graves2000- got any pics??

I could be wrong but my understanding is that finish doesn't oxidize like traditional finishes. It eventually allows the metal to oxidize underneath it.

yeah, pics would help us out a lot...

my guess is that he could just have some surface smudges- if they are below that then outta luck-

pics might help. a non-acid wheel cleaner is another way to tell.
