Default Proper care of Microfiber towels

Fabric softener can clog the pores in the MFs and make them less absorbent. Half a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle helps. Ask me how I know.

I'd like to hear from people who tried products that were specifically designed to clean MFs. I'm interested in buying something like this if they give better results than the vinegar method.

I use 2 oz of plain old white vinegar per load. A gallon last a long time at that rate. Maybe 6-8 towels a load. My towels are fairly new, less than a year, and show no ill effects at this point. It seems to work fine and it's know that vinegar helps remove soap build up from fabric so you might as well extenf the life of you MF's by using.

I use the vinegar method also. If your washer has the fabric softener thing in the middle of the agitator (on top), put it in there. It will add it to the rinse cycle itself. Tumble dry low heat, with NO fabric sheet. The softener gives the microfiber a weird feel, and can leave streaks on glass, and your paint. I just ordered some microfiber detergent form autogeek.net. Once I try it, I will let you guys know how it is, and if it works well enough to see a difference, I will post up a couple of pics

I think it will be a good investment considering I just bought some more microfiber, getting some more in a couple of days, and buying some microfiber drying towels in the future

Cold water wash with woolite or dreft, sometimes i use vinegar in the rinse. Don't use high heat in the dryer, only the delicate cycle. If your towels get too hot the split fibers will fuse back together and they won't work.

I just recently built up my "detailing arsenal" and purchased the sonus towel kit from autopia, which included the wash. I've only done one MF load with it so far, but it seemed to work well.

As for softener, all the towels warn not to use it. I ended up just air drying the towels on a rack. They still ended up soft.
