Default Tips on polishing fibreglass?

Hi all,

I am planning to detail a friends pearl white Lotus Exige S in the next 2 days. It is the first time I have done anything carbon fibre/fibreglass so I was wondering if there is anything special I need to do with it?

I have heard through a detailer for a top end car dealer here that it burns/heats up a lot easier (But then again he is using a rotary).

I will be using a PC7424 starting off with an orange lake country pad with Mezerna PO85RD heavy cut and then a lake country white pad with PO85RD light cut (Sorry but I forgot the exact name of the polishes I have).

The car has low-med level of swirling. Any suggestions appreciated

Ask the twanksta. He detailed an Elise not long ago.

The reason the PC won't do as well, is because it takes longer to breakdown the abrasives in polishes, like menzerna.
You can do it, but it will take longer.

Take plenty of before and afters.

Good luck

Menzerna PO85RD isn't going to do anything for swirl removal with a PC. Pick up Meguiar's M105 and M205 instead. They both contain non-diminishing abrasives, which will allow your PC to correct defects much faster, and finish down hologram-free

Are you guys referring to PO85RD not working so well on fibreglass specifically? I have been using my listed combo for my TSX, AP2 and Audi TT and it has turned out great. Although the TT was quite hard to correct but 2-3 passes worked out a treat.

Audi's tend to have hard clear coat, that's why its hard to correct.

You could try SIP with an orange pad, and PowerFinish with a green pad for the Lotus.

Do we know if Lotus' have particularly "hard" or "soft" paint? I've never worked on one.

^^^ Here is the link to the Elise, that Billy detailed. This should give you some guidance for the Exige!

Hope this helps.
