Nice test Chris, I just went out in my garage and tried it myself and with a socket I can do 16lb-ft with one hand pretty easy.
Then tried with a filter cap and a new filter on the wrench but there was no way to get enough grip with one hand due to filter being to large (I have size 10 hands).
Using both my hands though it was possible to click it.
I think it's a whole different ball game with the filter on car though, but with some captains of crush training maybe I could do it just by hand on the next filter change

45 bucks.

I bought this one off the web a couple of years ago for $9. I bought this one off the web a couple of years ago for $9.
Works perfectly. I use a torque wrench. YMMV. Gift wrapping is available.

Agreed. You other guys are making this way the hell more difficult than you need to. I've been using a strap filter wrench like the above, or like this

for more than 40 yrs on probably 20 different cars and never, ever had an issue of any kind!

Maybe I'm holding it wrong, but I used that [strap] one on a stuck oil filter and it didn't work. Hence me starting this thread.

I did pick up a different Lisle -- supposedly this will crush and absolutely remove a stubborn filter -- will review it when I run into another stuck filter:

I've also noticed the small Honda oil filter is easier to strip/get stuck than the big-ass PCX s2000 filter, at least on the cars I've worked on.

If damage to the oil filter is not an issue, I used one of these to remove stubborn ones. Good for other stubborn things around the house.

A 5.56 round through the filter makes it easy to insert a screwdriver through it and just rotate it off!! LOL
