I presume have checked relays / earth strap to bodywork and also starter / alternator wiring - they can come loose. Equally, could be shit HP alarm ....
Thanks UF - the earth strap looks ok - there is no information in the S2000 Manual for the relays in the Interior fuse box - which ones would I check and how?
Will check out the wiring a little later on.
I think it's the alarm!

Reason: updating info
Relays are good - they are clicking away.
Spoke to H&P and they told me how to bypass the starter part of the alarm- this didn't work either, so the alarm is fine and it looks like it is the starter motor.
Interesting that it just died...It's booked into the local garage to get sorted!
New Honda Starter Motor on the way - 2 day lead time £338 (!) Found a Borg and Beck one for £144 - warrantied for 2yrs /24k miles - went Honda in the end. I am finding it is worth sticking with Honda parts as much as possible!
Still got some idling issues - did a run last week on the smoking hot Wednesday, looks like I had some heat soak on the AEM CAI and the kangarooing returned too.
On another note - brake ducting kit ordered - 51mm duct hose and flanges to go on the back of the faux vents and onto the brake shields.
How many have changes their engine mounts? I suspect mine do need replacing @ 17yrs and 115k. While I am not sure they are passed it - I am slowly trying to get everything back up to how it should be or better.
