There is a difference.. Key difference.

Police are employees.

Moderators are volunteers. Enthusiasts of the board that want to help keep the best interests of the board in mind and help. They are no different from any other person when they first joined the board. They are passionate about the s2000 and everything it brings.

Anyone been to an auto-x event? Could you imagine if you told the people out replacing cones, lining up cars, helping out that they can be there but not run?

I don't believe we should ever restrict Moderators.

And on a side note, I had to clean the car today only to have it start to sprinkle when I was all set to drive. (at least she's clean now)

Yes, i've been to those events. They're great because I don't have to shag the cones. Instead, i pay extra and get to enjoy my time driving and talking to other drivers who are not shagging cones either.

I'm not saying that that should be the policy here, and I understand where you're coming from. But, as a representative of the site, moderators are bound by a higher set of rules/codes and need to be much more eloquent and constructive when posting and engaging in discussions - that's just the nature of it. In any case, I don't frequent enough of the other forums to experience or see what's going on as far as "over moderation" and thus have no complaints. However; reading that thread with Luder is just plain power trip and over board.

So how do we proceed forward. My idea:
1. Let's collectively get a list of all issues (perceived or real).
2. Qualify the list --what can be measurably fixed and what cannot
3. Of the items that can be fixed, identify a concise solution.
4. Work to implement whatever solutions.
5. Sometime later in time, reevaluate the original list to see whether or not the same issues exist.
This.

So this is ok to remain as-is.. no moderation required right?

No moderation required. A lot of the people said nice things, a few people pointed out it was stupid to drive the car in the rain with bald tires, which is a valid perspective. If you start moderating stuff like that you'll be very busy.

Agreed. That thread has not got out of hand yet. I could see this thread eventually getting crazy and people making personal attacks, but it hasn't gotten the yet

OP asked me to delete it, so I did. If anyone asks me to delete their own thread in a forum I moderate, I'll be happy to do it.

We have posted a dedicated S2000 Talk Rules thread now: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/104...00-talk-rules/

Consistency is a must for a moderator, as well as team work and a good attitude (not an overbearing or power-tripping one). As a group of volunteers, we have decided that these 4 rules are in the best interests of the forum as a whole, as well as the posters who use it. I dare to say that no moderator that I know would ever lock a thread simply based on their own opinion, but there is a level of professional discretion that is implied (and required) when moderating internet forums.

That said, I wish everyone happy posting and please PM me [us] with any questions or concerns. We are here to serve and help when and wherever we can.

Regards
