What's Happening To This Community?
That hit me in a funny way.
That's because you're opinion doesn't hold any weight, If you're young. It's not just that way on the forum but it's that way in life. And believe you me, it won't be changing any time soon. Older people got that way because they were young and dumb at one time. Young people can be intelligent, but not often wise.
I guess you could be of that opinion. Information posted doesn't have to be bragging (although it can be).
ppl aren't asking exorbitant price for HTs, just because. It's supply and demand. You can't buy one new! Same with CRs, same with CR lips, same with late model s2ks
you can't assume an owner is an elitist just because they own JDM but hey do like to showoff. Tell me one time on FB someone is not bragging about what they own, who they know, or what they are doing?
you make this community what it is. Take what you want and leave what you want
Ignorance is bliss

Anytime a car gets old enough to let hs kids afford them the forums go to crap. Happened with my M3, s2000, and to some extent the Lotus Elise.
Like others have alluded to, there's a big divide between two groups: generally/relatively older owners with stock S2Ks or properly modified S2Ks that use correct grammar and appreciate the car's purpose AND generally/relatively younger owners with "hellaflush" and "dope" nonsense modifications that don't know/use correct grammar and don't get the car.
The divide is mainly a result of S2Ks getting older and less expensive. I find the second group sort of embarrassing to the community, but will never let my love for S2Ks waver.

This community started out with older men and women buying a premium $35,000+ sports car. Now it's a 10,000 dollar sports car being bought by kids in high school w/ part time jobs...you do the math. That said...this thread will not become a bitch fest.

I suspect that part of the problem is with many peoples' definition of "community." Nobody owes you squat. No one knows everything; if you don't know anything then don't feel like others owe you answers. "Community" requires that all the members contibute.
Everyone contributes to the community in one way or another. The way they contribute may be considered positive or negative depending on the preference of others that come in contact with them. I think people take this too seriously. People doing whatever they want with their property that is within acceptable norms is fine. An example of this is not driving in ways that endanger themselves and others.
However, norms are ever-changing; think of ethics and morals. This is a fluid process my friends and you can choose to accept it or go against the grain. It is human nature to try to find reasons to feel superior over others. It's also human nature to find ways to have sex, but that doesn't mean it's appropriate in all situations. In the end, it's just a car. Whether other S2000's are hard parked, flushed out, blinged out, raced in, tracked up, or gutted is not really my business. As long as the owners enjoy the car and are still having fun I encourage them to continue ownership.
I am not a perfect person without bias. But I'm trying to not let it show so much and encourage others to do the same. I mean, we're all part of the same community. Might as well make it pleasant.
(For those of you that care, the in depth knowledge sharing and observation swapping is what draws me to this site. I've learned a lot and thank everyone that has contributed in sharing factual and preferential information. The goofballs that give me laughs are also great.)

I just started lurking here a few months ago, and have only oh been posting for a month or so. I don't know how this board used to be, but coming from sportbike forums(where the average age is EARLY 20's) I find this place to be much more mature overall.
I think it's a sign of our general population. I get tired of reading threads like 'my lsd saved me', 'my cars redline just lowered' or 'just lost the back end'. What's the problem? Immature people taking a somewhat unforgiving car (to new rwd owners) and driving it beyond their limits.
I've had to pull back from this community as a whole, both online and in person because of the amount of immaturity. There are a lot of friends I've made over the years. They're still in my life, and I really enjoy spending time with them when we all get together. But I do not enjoy people who buy these cars, drive them like they're on the track but have never seen a track day in their life. You know, boy wonder race car drivers, just looking to take someone out. On public roads. That is what bothers me the most. At first I wanted to 'educate' but when I do, a larger group of 'similarly minded immature people' tell me I have small balls or that I need to live a little. Find that a bit much coming from a group of people that put people at risk on the public roads but wont come hang with us on at the track because 'it costs too much' or 'insurance man, I have no insurance on the track'. Kids stuff.
As for people lowering their cars, or doing things I don't generally like with them. Couldn't say that is what really bothers me.

It's not just the kids and the reduced cost of entry, but the car has been out of production for 3 years now, the community is naturally going to fade a bit during that time.
Despite the decline, it's still a great community with great people and years of accumulated knowledge on the car.
