Default Need help deciding on tuning

ok heres the background: just keeping it I/H/TP/E and im starting to auto-x this summer (not real serious auto-x just yet... maybe in the future). and its still my daily driver. i want to get it tuned.

im not going AEM EMS... i dont have the money to dump into that and i think its overkill for me.

VAFC seems to be the popular one, but is it really the best for my situation.

i want to get a wideband where i can datalog and a system that i can get tuned and learn to tune it myself. i also want the system to show gains... im not after something that just looks like i know what im doing and doesnt really do anything to benefit my car.
... i just dont want to spend 1000 on a bunch of crap thats goin to gain me 5hp from using it to tune... where i could spend 1500 and tune with AEM EMS and have a lot better resaults...

anyone get where im comming from and have any suggestions? thanks.

just get the e-manage ultimate. i don't get why people still use the vafc. it's garbage compared to what's out there now.

emu is perfect for your application. right in the middle of the vafc and aem. i agree the aem is overkill for a car a non fi/itb car. although you would get the best gains out of the whole bunch, it's tough to justify that extra $1k

you'll get pretty solid results from the e-mu and they won't disapear like the vafc will do.

and if you end up getting pretty serious about auto-xing, look into some gears.

thanks a lot... so the emu does a pretty good job? i mean ive heard a few people have them... but it seems like theres soo much about vafc or aem ems... thats bout it... from when i searched it seemed like the emu was a good option but i just wasnt sure... thats why i posted.

just a question bout it tho... is it hard to get started tuning yourself? ive never tuned in my life and would like to learn it... would the emu be difficult for me to figure out?

thanks

Stand alone > EMU > VAFC

But if you are on a budget, the VAFC does a fine job at adding more HP.

the short answer is that the oem ecu eventually relearns the oem settings with the vafc so you lose your partial tune after about a week or so, but you always keep the WOT tune.

run a search on it if you want to learn more in depth about. there are guys that explain it in great detail. but that's the top summary.
