I appreciate the info guys, you all have really helped out with the trip planning. Also how are the cops on the turnpike? You all have gotten me interested in this sofa king thing what is it?

Cops aren't too bad on Turnpike, but keep in mind there are certain Turnpike Service toll plazas which have Florida Highway Patrol Stations there. I beleive it's the first one once you get onto the turnpike (name is something really weird) then there's another one in Orlando, another in Pompano... and maybe in Homestead (??). If you see a pack of cars going somewhat fast 80-90 MPH i suggest you tag along and cruise with them on the way down. This way you conserve a little gas by not getting the full front of the air and also because if someone slows down... then you can too.

Oh and Radar's ARE LEGAL in Florida

There's a FHP station by Dolphin Mall, exit on NW 12th Street, as well as SW 120th Street right before Metro Zoo. You should be okay cruising 80-90 like Cin said and driving behind someone else always helps. There's a couple places on I-75 that are speed traps, mainly right before the Turnpike by all the curves and forest areas between the split highway. And I always see people pulled over where the Turnpike meets with 836. As she mentioned radars are legal in Florida, I'll mention that so are radar/laser detectors. :-)

2.09 for Premium Amoco by my house right of the turnpike and Okeechobee... Carefull with Aligator Alley (I-75 in between Tampa and Miami) it's MILES and MILES with nothing but sawgrass on either side. No rest stops that I remember.

I don't think he'll be taking I-75 through Tampa...at least that's not the most direct way to the Keys. I-75 splits and you can go to Tampa or you can hop on the Turnpike.
