What does the breather type(?) hose do that plugs into the side of the intake arm, do? Not the one that is a breather for the valve cover, but the other "large" one that is grey that connects below? I either need to get a new one, or plug them off if they don't do anything.

TIA

Regards,
James

It's a return from the emissions air pump in the driverside fender.

Any benefits or downfalls to capping them both off?

I considered removing the system entirely but I'm not totally convinced yet. From what I know:

Downfalls
1)CEL
2)More emissions ( )

Benefits
1)Weight savings, the pump is pretty large and has alot of hosing.
2)Taking weight away from the front left corner of the car (there is nothing in the opposite corner (unless you have a CAI filter there)
3)Less crap getting pumped into the intake tract

Damn, I was hoping it wouldn't throw a CEL. Altho, it hasn't yet, I'm going to get a new hose. Thanks for the help.

Yup if you pay enough you too can have a huge kink put in your intake...

As for your problem, pour some lodine in your gas tank and it will fix it right up.
