Default Looking into an intake system

Well, given my sudden need for a whole new roof on my house, the dreams of selling the s2000 for an NSX (or tundra, or anything else for that matter) is put on hold probably for another year or so, hopefully at which time I will be in a position to buy whatever i want IN ADDITION TO instead of in lieu of it.

My s2k is mad at me for putting it up for sale again so I am attempting to butter her up by buying her a new gift.

My car isnt really about speed, I like good looks, but the acceleration lag, and quietness is getting a little old. So I'm going to remedy this in the form of an intake.

I dont necessarily want a regular intake (AEM V2 was a consideration) beacuse I dont like the look of the tube just doing its thing.

I prefer the look of, and I think I have settled on Password:JDM Dry Carbon Air Induction System with a Password:JDM Dry Carbon Cooling Plate.

One thing that concerns me though is the potential of hydro-lock.

We live in FL and drive in some bad storms sometimes. Should I be worried at all?

Is there anyway to incorporate an AEM Air Bypass Valve (or something like it)?

Also does anyone have one? Is it much louder than stock? (Assuming the rest of the powertrain is completely stock)

Also other than SOS, are there any other vendors on the board that can give me a good price on this setup? $1500 for an intake was a little more than I budgeted for, but I want the best, so I'll save up and do it if thats what it takes...

I haven't 100% decided fully on it, it just seems that this is the best one that will meet my requirements, can anyone else recommend me a good intake setup with a cooling plate for a clean nice look but that doesn't require modifying the hood or bumpers?

get a k&N Filter and remove your Intake cover, did for for 3 years on my S2k, PERFECT, never an issue ... EVER + the extra noise is soooo goooddd

IS CHEAP, and the noise makes a HUGEEE difference .... believe me !

Good luck!

thanks oscar! yea thats definitly an option. Right now I'm considering each. my budget option was actually a K&N FIPK

I really wanna start dressing her up though, kinda like if i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do it right or at least wait until I can.

My main concern is the potential for hydro-lock with the PAssword JDM unit.

No i wont be driving into a lake but i've been caught in some pretty heavy down pours with the car, esp on allegator alley a few times where you couldn't see more than maybe a foot in front of you.

hey there fellow "s" owner! i currently have a pwjdm dry carbon intake and cooling plate on my 06' and i would be lying to if i told u it was anything less then awesome. both me and my brother have one on our cars and have had them for a few months now. so far it has been the best purchase ive made for the car. if u wanna butter ur whyp up this is the ticket. as for the risk of hydro-lock u should have to wry. 1) the snorkel isnt low enough that the water will get in it and if does ur obviously driving under water and shouldnt be driving there in the first place. ive been in some serious rain and haven't had any problems what so ever. 2) the intake has a small hole on the bottom of the main chamber so there for it's not 100% air-tight for that exct reason. i luv the intake and trust me it's a big differnce over stock. as for the sound. the car sounds completly stock until you open it up, and then it rly screams. it rly fills up the space in the engine bay and with the cooling plate it looks rly good. i hope i've bee of some help. i also suggest checking out the thread strickly dedicated to intakes where it goes a lil more into the intake. good luck friend!

hopwood thanks a lot for that insight!

You basically answered everything I needed to know!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for it now. Got to do my taxes tonight and see what I owe the govt, if its less than I expected or at least not significantly more that I expected, PWJDM intake, here i come!!!

Where did you get yours? There are a couple of vendors on the forum here who carry it and I'm debating which to order from.

i pm'd one of the pwjdm guyz on the forums n then later called them and ordered it over the fone. it took like a week to get it to my front door. since this was my first mod to my "s" and it took about 3 hours to install but thats becuz i had zero experience with this car b4 then but the instructions were right on point and i was able to get it on with a perfect fit. it's been on the car for a few months now n i have no complaints with the craftsmanship of the intake. the dry carbon was actually alot stronger then i had thought so it should last a long time.
