Mine does that as well when it's cold.

I found that if you double-clutch the 1-2 shift, it helps smooth it out until the car warms up.
Im really confused as to how double clutching an upshift would help anything. Are you rev-matching on an upshift??? If so your doing more bad than good bro

I believe probably 9 out of 10 S shift ruff from 1 to 2 when cold.

If the new MTF didn't help and it really bothers you, try the GM Syncromesh Fricktion Modified. I found the GM stuff to work the best. The only problem is that it last only about 7 thousand miles.

Try it once or twice while your engine is cold. Before you know it, there's no need to double-clutch.

And how would double-clutching be doing more bad than good?

if your double clutching on an upshift you would be unmatching the revs, upsetting the drivetrain.

are you talking about the 3 to 2nd downshift?

Ok, I see the confusion now in my earlier post....I wrote 1-2 instead of 3-2. My bad!

The OP didn't specify whether he was going up or down into second, so I figured he wasn't downshifting well into 2nd.

I find that in my car, I cannot rush the shifter when the tranny is cold. I shift very slowly from 1st to 2nd and them from 2nd to 3rd as I leave the house to avoid that slight grind. I basically move the lever very slowly from 1st to 2nd and so on. This avoids the minor grinding most of the time.

As the tranny warms this becomes less necessary. Once it's fully warmed after a few miles the shifting is like butter. This characteristic has not changed since I switched from the OEM tranny fluid to the GM Synchromesh.
