Default help ~!~

hey guys~!
what a crazy warm day for Toronto winter!~

I just finished wash my car today , I felt like I wanna clean my engine bay ,
as soon as i pop up the hood I see no coolant in white tank.....
Feel like don't wanna drive till fill up the coolant.

So the question.. this is my first coolant fill up since i get this car last year.
so i don't know what previous owner used for coolant.. (type I or II)
hear that type I and type II cannot mixed together..what's the difference between type I and II?????????????
Is there any safe way to do it? don't wannt drain all the coolant .. just want to fill up the tank..

Do I have to use OEM fluid? or I can pick one up from Canadian tire? if i can which brand would you guys recommand?

Thanks

Use Honda coolant. Pop off your rad cap (once the car is cool) and check to see what colour the coolant is. If its blue its type 2. Get some at Honda and fill the reservoir. If the coolant is green then it's either type 1 or some crappy tire coolant. Assuming its type 1 that would mean your coolant hasn't been changed in about 8 year because they haven't used type one for quite a while.

That's just an overflow bottle, you can still drive the car, top it off with any run of the mill 50/50 pre mix antifreeze. Should cost around 14.99 at Canadian tire.

Don't freak out your car isn't going to blow up. Take the cap off the overflow bottle and you can pull it straight up and out of the engine bay so it's easier to read the fill markings on the side. Top it off and put it back in. That's it.

Dont use crappy tire coolant. Its garbage IMO. The only time i use Prestone or whatever is at crappy tire is when i fill my aftercooler, so i can distinguish if a leak is engine or aftercooler.

You're the first person that ive ever heard say it matters.... Antifreeze is all pretty much the same unless its DEXCOOL which is for GM only... At least thats what ive been told.

It really does not matter as long as its mixed right. Its just coolant nothing special here.

it matters because the coolants have different lifespans - the blue stuff is long use (like 7 years i think) the green stuff is 2 years

when you mix things - you now have coolant which needs to be changed 3 times as often.

more importantly why would you mix things to save $4? it's not like the OEM coolant is unavailable

The performance of the coolant is no different from one another in terms of heat transfer. It's just service interval. It's not like green coolant will destroy the radiator or the water jacket inside the engine like DEXcool stuff will.
