May not have problems with the cops, but I wouldn't guarantee you'll be driving home in your car.

I know a good number of people who've had their car stolen or broken into when visiting Montreal.

I was about to say the same thing...

To be honest, having lived in Montreal and visited within the last year (I drove there, so I had Ontario plates in Quebec) I had no problems with cops in the minivan (has pretty dark tint on the windows). I can't say for sure whether or not they may target you, but I doubt it since your plates indicate you are from out of town and the law where you registered your vehicle at may be different than theirs.

There are a few VERY important things you should be aware of though. Quebec drivers are not as courteous as your average driver from Ontario, more than likely you will have to force your way into a lane to make a merge. Very rarely will someone let you in if you signal. In addition to this, the roads are very confusing because the signs that direct you ie. North, East, West, South are all in French as well as many of the very important road signs. I would recommend you find the french translation of the directions and bring a GPS (this is a must imo). You may also want to pay extra attention to signs at intersections. Many of the intersections there prohibit right turns on a red light and this is where many of the cops get travelers.

Hope this helps a bit and have a nice trip!
