Default Need someone to help Verify some (mis)information.

My ap1 s2k threw a engine check today so I decided to buy an obd2 scanner from partsource. The model I was looking at is a CAN OBD2 scanner and the clerk said none of the OBD2 scanners will work with my car as it needs a special adapter. I'm pretty sure this is misinformation but I could be wrong. Will any obd2 scanner work for my ap1 if not where can i find one for under $200 that will work.

Thanks!

A CAN OBD2 scanner should work with your car, I'm using Innova's entry level CAN OBD2 scanner that I got at crappy tire and it works on my car, it was labelled as can obd2. What's the name of the scanner ? ,try to find a manufacturer web page and go there to verify that the model will work if you have that information. I can't see why it would not work if it is labelled as being can obd2.

any obd2 scanner will work. I think the CAN is an updated version of the interface.

I have a reg ODB2 scanner in my console that costed me $75, and as far as I know all ODB2 inputs are the same, for a Honda to be different would be very odd. Go back to that place and slap that guy!

i bought a obd2 scanner off a tool truck.. its nothing special however it does read live data and you can save information in it. i can't imagine the port would be any different. just the number of pins should change from manufacturer to manufacturer. you should be ok though. whats the code read?

yes it was the innova now that i have done some research. Both guys behind the desk were insistent that it would not work on hondas... or any Japanese cars which i found odd as if they ran off some other system why would they call it OBD2 and not something else... anyway. Thanks for clearing that up guys. I knew i wasn't going crazy.
