Have you seen "Who Killed the Electric Car?", the documentary on the EV1. Very interesting. People who leased the EV1 where begging to keep it, but GM had them all returned after the lease period.
Oil & Gas.... anything that cut into that market in the 90's was quickly done away with.

the Tesla is built by Lotus (same assembly plant). I saw that on tv as well - that's prob why it looks so much like the Elise.
It's nice - not sure about the quite bit tho. I already miss the roar of the S.
