I drove my car from Sarasota to Wesley Chapel yesterday without stopping, and while things were definitely hot under the hood, I would be surprised if that shield was much more than 200 degrees. If you get a header without a shield/wrapping/coating, then the temps would most likely get higher, but either way you should stay south of 300. Also, assuming you are going to powdercoat that shield, everything should be fine. My friend has a non-coated Berk header and his shield has been powdercoated for 20,000+ miles with no problems.

Lets go!!!

You have to do this one time in your life. I don't expect everyone to love it at the level I do but it is sport on a grand scale.

May 29th 2011 and technically it is the 100 year anniversary of the event. (first race in 1911 but they missed a few races during WW2)

The right way to do it would be to drive up or fly in so we arrive early Friday AM (or Thursday evening if we drive) so we can go to Carb day which is the last practice before the race on Sunday along with the Freedom 100 (Indy lights race), Pit stop competition etc.

Goofing around Saturday at the Track (Drivers meeting, Museum etc) then Race Day on Sunday, return home Monday.

Mark your calendars!!

This is truly something to be excited about. I am so stoked. Indy cars have always been my favorite.

In the glory years it was not televised and you could only watch on closed circuit television. In Tampa that was at Curtis Hixon Convention Center of years gone by. Of course the race was also ON Memorial Day then and schools were not closed for the holiday. I can remember sitting out at PE in Jr High with a portable radio and all the guys standing around listening to those turbine cars lapping the field. IT WAS A BIG DEAL!

Hey thanks. I had you in mind when I posted this question. Surely appreciate it.

BTW....finally got the cooling plate installed. Few new coats of clear lacquer went on and some curing time first. Looks awesome! Thanks man!
