thinking about boostin
If you need some advice give me a call.. 727 344 1800. I am in the process of building a turbo kit for my daily driver with a goal of around 300 whp. People tend to stay away from turbocharging because of all the horror stories they have heard. Truth is.. the people telling these stories are taking their cars to the wrong shop. (No offense to anyone) I see many shops install big tubular manifolds and stick the turbo in awkward places. This is fine for a race car but creates problems when daily driving. I could go on and on but I won't'
A properly setup turbo will be very reliable and will have no problems at all. If you have some extra time swing by the shop and I would be glad to walk you thru a few senarios and show you some of our work. We build everything in house to your car to ensure a fit that is 100%.

You should come by and see the CNCed custom manifold I have at the shop. Egual Flow better than equal length. I planned on pairing it with my 2.4 stroker turbo motor. Quick spool and lots of torque.
I agree with a turbo can be a very good daily driver but like I said most people that go turbo for big HP. If all you are looking for is 300 hp that is very easy and reliable.
Well.....here's my 2 cents worth. My first S2K had a stock Vortec S/C (7 pund pulley). We bought a new 2006 and promised to kep it stock. I was committed to this until my wife said...." boy, I sure do miss that supercharger....".
As far as daily driving goes, S/C is the way to go. If you want braggin' rights, whip out your wallet and go turbo.

based on the OP's post:
experienced = turbo or supercharger
non experienced = supercharger
I have probably had more boosted setups than anyone in this forum, aside from shop owners with endless resources.
do your self a favor and pm Metcalfe, he works at LHT Performance in Pinellas Park. LHT has been doin this since 1996 I believe.

Just out of curiosity.. Why do you say that supercharger is the way to go for a daily? What is your reasoning behind this?
Perhaps I don't hang out much with the folks who know much more than I do about boosted engines and the what-not. But, for appearances only, these cars create enormous horsepower, balls deluxe!! However, I just have the three years of ownership knowing that I never once had any kind of break-down with my S/C. I always had the confidence that I could jump in my S/C S2K and head all the way to Eugene, Oregon and back and never think twice as to if I was going to make it. When planned & ad-hock drives and meets came up, I never had the excuse that I could not make it due to the car being "down".
As for a mild turbo to enhance the pleasure of the S2K,........ absolutely. The problem resides with the owners wanting "more power", Tim the Tool Man Taylorism just rapes the expectation of normalcy. No one seems to be content. And this is the downfall of dependability.
***FOR THE RECORD.....I am still waiting for Andy's rear mounted Turbo system with a mild and dependable 7 pound boost system. I have even offered up my car as a test mule with the DBW. But until it is tested and proven, I will have to comment on my beliefs as I have tasted them. This I believe, is what the the original poster was asking for.
Not sure if this satisfies, but it is all the "reasoning" that I have to offer ....................
Certain cars lend themselves to rear mount turbos. ie corvette, where room under the hood is a problem. The S2000 has tons of room and not really any need for rear mount.
A shorty or log manifold is small and perfect for lower boost levels. Also at low boost levels you can do either an air to air intercooler or water to air intercooler. Put a small ball bearing turbo on it, keep boost levels to 10lbs or less and you get 300 plus HP and reliability.

Please......no drama needed. Just my personal opinion, personal experience and personal observation from every other "turbo" S2K'er that has made the decision to go turbo. It is my gut-check and their garage queen results that give creedance to my posting.

Sheesh.. Everyone takes thinks so personally. I just wanted to hear your reasonings for having a supercharged daily. I have worked on many but have not had personal experience.
He is right! In past Superchargers, Comptech and Vortec, spent a lot of money on research and had a bolt on reliable product. The turbo kits of that time were custom and had problems and the biggest problems was no good tuners. Now there are turbo kits that are better and the ECUs can be modified better. There are also more tuners that know how to tune the car.
I remember a guy named Alex who tried to get the first 500 hp car in the area. He spent tons of money on it and never got it. Now it isn't a problem.
The reason I like the Kraftwerks S/C is that you drive in and a couple days later you drive out with a perfectly tuned car that drives like a stock S2000 but with more power. You can do that with a turbo now but it was harder in the past.
