I'm about 80% on going. I dont want to spend too much money. what time will you guys leave?

 

THURSDAY
Typically, we meet for breakfast at Cracker Barrel on I-75 and Hwy 50/98. That is exit 301 - the Brroksville exit. If memory serves me, those that want breakfast meet at 7:00 AM and those who don't meet at 8:00 AM. Either way, you need to be fully gased ( ) and ready to roll. We try to make it up to the Interstate Rest Stop just before Gainesville to the ripened coffee . Then, we continue north to Hwt 129 (yes.....the same Hwy 129) just south of the Fla-Ga border and start our two lane excitement from there. depending gas/food stops, we roll into Dillard GA around 5:00 PM.

Now, if we want to crank it up a bit, we can try to leave just a tad earlier (30 minutes) and I'll take you a super "teaser" in the GA Highlands that will rob you of your sleep. We can hit this after check in, then invade the infamous Momma G's for some serious carb counting Italian grub along with locally brewed Sweetwater craft beers.

FRIDAY
Up and early in our jaunt to our local favorite sleepy town to get the juices flowing. Can you say ...."WAR WOMAN ROAD......??" EGAD.......says Jughead !! Then, we take the most picture painting route along side the river to Franklin . Take a breath through this under-rated vacation town, put on the fingerless gloves and spank the Mini Dragon, Hwy 28 all the way to Fontana!!!! Check in, eat lunch, and then pretend that we are surnamed....ANDRETTI. Crank up the RUSH Tune...."Red Barchetta" (in my case Laguna Blue Barchetta) and and then play our favorite game of Cat & Mouse through the swails of the best spent money in Federal Government Spending !!

The east of the day you are on your own. As is Saturday.

Sunday, we assemble to see who wants to ride together for the trip home.

No charge for the pre-emptive excitement ........

 

Scott can chime in here but if I remember correctly we usually meet at I-75 & Hwy 50 (exit 301) around 6:00AM (Cracker Barrel) for those who want to do breakfast.

We then gas and go north from there as near to 7:00AM as possible. I know it's early but we have a full day of driving ahead of us and really need to get going. If you don't do breakfast you can just meet at 7:00AM and roll out then.

We then drive north on I-75 to exit 451, Hwy 129 (about 16 miles north of the I-75 & I-10 junction) this will put us on the "backroads" for the remainder of the day all the way to Dillard Georgia which is in the far NE corner of GA at the NC state line.

The days trip is 523 miles and 373 miles of it is "backroads" which makes for a much more senic drive and relaxing drive.

Friday monring we will leave Dillard fairly early 8;30AM or so and immediatley it is game on for twisty roads. We start with Warwoman Road then on to Why #28 into a beautiful little town called Highlands NC. There is a great little grocery store there with an awesome beer & wine selection (they even have food) so we do a pit stop there, shop for food & spirits (unless your Chip & Sailor Jerry, they bring theirs from FL) then it's back to Hwy #28 to Franklin then on into Fontana Village.

That stretch is approx 100 miles but it will take a good 3-1/2 to 4 hours to drive. The roads are that twisty. You will find out what the S was built for even before you arrive at the Dragon trust me!!

We check in and then usually do a group Dragon Run before the evenings, dinner, Beer Swap, meet etc.
