CEL
Hey guys I was going on a drive this morning and the car throws a CEL out of nowhere. I take a quick drive down to Advance Auto and have the codes pulled this is what I got.
P0497
P0134-o2 sensor bank 1, sensor 1, no activity.
What could have caused this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. This was with stock exhaust and cat on too. I installed my exhaust and tp 2 hours after this happened just to clarify.
-I posted this in the under the hood forum and only got one response from the 50 views. Was wondering if maybe some of yall could shine a lil more light on the prob for me.

The primay o2 might have just gone out. No real cause. Check to make sure it doesnt have dirt or oil in the little breather holes on the metal body. Chances are it just needs to be replaced though.
P0497 is evap system low purge flow. Maybe a canister purge valve. You need a vacuum pump and a multimeter to test this.
Which code did it list first? P0497 or P0134

If you want you can check to make sure the canister vent shut valve isnt contaminated with fuel. This happens often. Wish I had a good picture of one, but they look mostly the same on all but a few hondas and are generally located in the same spot on the evap canister.
Id say you should start with the evap problem BEFORE the o2 sensor. One might have cause the other to throw a light.

Awesome thanks for the info, I'll give them all a look at tomorrow. The first code that came up was the P0497 code.
Sorry for the dumb question, but where is the canister purge valve located? Any thought on what may have caused this?

I honestly dont know exactly where its located on the S2k. Never had to troubleshoot one before. Its a black box about 6"x12"x4" with a bunch of rubber lines of various thickness routed into it. Follow the lines from the fuel tank and you'll run across it. Sometimes its hidden under a shield.
The most likely cause of evap problems is overfilling the gas tank. Some of the liquid fuel travels down lines meant only for fuel vapor and messes up sensitive diaphragms.
Check the canister vent shut valve first for fuel. Remove it from the car and disconnect all the lines and see if you can get any drops of fuel to come out. If even one drop comes out its contaminated (and ruined). If its not contaminated, go for the purge valve.

I had a chance to get under an S2k today and Justin C is right on the money. The canister vent shut valve is located in front of and almost above the evap canister. Its got several vacuum lines attached. The FTP sensor sits about 2" above it held in place with a strait piece of vacuum line. Pretty easy to spot. Probably only held in with 2 or 3 screws. Remove it and shake it around and see if you can get any fuel to drain out of it.
