Default I need new tires...suggestions?

yey, so my tires are shot...need new ones.

I just wondered if any of you "central texas" drivers had any extremely good or extremely bad expereiences with any certain tire for our driving conditions around here. I drive my car hard and fast by the way and i AM aware of the 225/245 rear tire size issue.

thanks.

Don't go KD-W's.

I would suggest staying with S-02's.

The OEM SO2 remains among the best choices. You might want to look into the BFG G-Force KD (not the KDW). The KD can be a bit tricky in wet conditions although in my experience it was still manageable if you drive conservatively when it is slick. The KD's are fairly expensive, sometimes hard to find and they wear out very quickly.
The SO2 is really good dry and pretty good in the rain but the wet performance deteriorates badly after reaching around 8000 miles. If you are driving hard most of the time you'll be lucky to get 8K out of the rears anyway.
I know several drivers that praise the Kuhmo Ecsta (both old and new types).. They offer good performance (not as good as the SO2) and longer tread life. Probably a good choice if you are not pushing the limits on the twisties frequently. Seems to be a good everyday street tire.
I'm still running SO2's on my stock rims for Auto-X but my everyday street setup is on 17's. I'm getting great performance from my current Yokos but still looking for a little slimmer rear tire as my 255's are too wide and rub occasionally.

i currently have the kumho's on the rear and so2's on the front...I bought the car that way. I'm guessin that the S02's are the origional tires still....of course the Kumho's are the wrong tire size, but i have dealt with it til now.....but it's time!

I was told that do not make the S 02 anymore, it is now the S 03!
I just bought some Yokohoma ES 100's and love them. They are rated very high: 280/AA/A. They should wear longer that the S02's, and the grip is awesome! I also upgraded the wheels and went with 255/35/18's in the back, and highly recomend it! I'm not sliding the tail as much on corners.

Jose, last time when I was looking for tires, they were discontinuing the normal S02's, but were still producing the OEM.

I just ordered a set of rear OEM S02's from Tire Rack last week, so they are still available. Blake is correct that the only S02's they make are the OEM ones.

We should also mention that the OEM S02's are much stickier than the non-OEM.

thanks for the input guys. from what it sounds like, the OEM SO2's are hard to beat, but I'm leanin more towards the yoko's or the Kumho's just because of price and how fast I'll wear em out.
