Default Question on Window Tape

Picked up a big-a$$ chip in my windshield the other day and before I get it fixed I thought I'd consider removing the black window tape...I found a picture of another Spa and it looks good.

But, my question is about the quality of factory paint underneath the tape? Is it all clear coated and "finished" or is the quality more like the "over spray" area in the trunk/spare tire area and would require re-finishing? Also, I am assuming the tape has to be removed to replace the windshield anyways, correct?

Any thoughts and comments are appreciated...

  1. It shold be the same as the rest of your car. Clear coated and all. Some have needed to get it touched up and other have not. As a rule more have posted good results then bad, as far as the finsih under tapes goes.
  2. NO, the tape does not needed to be removed to replace the windshield. It is the other way around. If you want to reinstall the tape, you have to replace the windshield.

Thanks, guys!

Well if I decide to do it...apparently be indepented of the windshield replacement. I think it may come down to a coin flip as my wife has absolutely no opion on anything regarding the car...oh well, she's the one that told me to go buy it almost two years ago..

Thanks again...
