Weekends are best for me as well. After reading what I can find about the mods, the stereo HU is a piece of cake, as is most the other installs. I think the main thing is getting the trim panels off and back on correctly without damaging them.

I think I have everything I need. I'm picking up some heat shrink tubing and a heat gun today on my way home from work (provided Lowe's has that kinda stuff).

My only realy concerns at this point are:

1) Dynamatting the doors. Is this hard to do? Should I even do it? The stereo shop I was at reccomend one door kit per side (a nromal door kit does both doors). This would create a sound chamber for the speakers. Does this make sense or is it BS?

2) I'm running Focal 165K2P's in the front. Mounting the speakers, tweeter and crossover where they won't rattle, fall or be in the way. I don't know if I need a bracket, spacer, etc. Has anyone out there installed these speakers in the S2k?

If anyone knows what else I will need in terms of parts/tools, lemme know. I'd like to have everything present when we do this.

HU/Speakers/Wiring is pretty easy, and the trim panels are no problem either (esp. after having them on/off 2 dozen times!). I can bring my carpet holder remover tool that I use to keep from breaking those suckers.

I also have some heat shrink tubing and a small propane tool for the heating/soldering if needed.

1) Dynomatting the doors looked like a lot of work to me; I simply painted on my sound proofing wherever I could safely reach w/o getting it on any moving parts. But the matting might also be easier to work with in that area (or not). I found that the sound proofing I used did a good job (ie, it was noticable) but I did the trunk and floorboards as well.

2) What year S? I assume these are 6.5" from the model #, correct? I have not installed these, but I have put 6.5" in my '00 S, and it required a bracket that I got from an S2Ki sponsor (forget who at the moment). If your S already has 6.5"s in it then these should just go right in.

Tools I use: manual phillips and regular screw drivers (#1 & #2), battery powered drill w/screwdriver bits, carpet holder removal tool, soldering gun, wire cutters, wire strippers, big flashlight, plyers. I think that about covers it

I have all those tools except the carpet removal tool. I planned on grabbing one from the dealer tomorrow if I had time. I appreicate the heat shrink tubing offer, but I planned on buying some anyway as I also have a lot of wiring to do on my Jeep as well, so its good to have on hand. Everything else in the list I have, so taht's good.

I have a 2006. Crutchfield shows 6.5" and 6.75" for my car, and this is what CarToys said would fit. I don't see anything about spacers though.

Anyone with an AP2, or better yet an MY06 and put in Focal's know if I need a sapcer or something?

Any experienced headlight cooks attending? You wouln't be held responsible for any moisture that could potentially appear, I just had a bad experience doing this with my E36. I'd like to meet you guys as I am somewhat new to the board.

You just have to use low temps and you can't leave it in there too long. I did it a long time ago with my civic and it came out good. You basically just have to heat it up to where you can take a razor blade and cut the seal cleanly. I wouldn't mind meeting everyone to work on a stereo install. Our S already has rear aftermarket speakers and aftermarket amp but I'm going to change out the stock HU and probably front speakers shortly.

Should be fine w/o any spacers if the speakers are within the "standard" 6.5" size range. I'll bring any spare speaker stuff I have when we do this just in case

I haven't cooked any headlights yet, but I would like to clear mine as well...

I would be interested in attending this as well. I don't bring much in the way of expertise to the table (just ask Lane ) but I would like to see what some of you guys are doing, especially with the stereo.

Any suggestions for a weekend to do this?

Assuming its at my place, most any weekend will work great. I have all the Stereo parts, except for the wires, which arrive the 20th.

Depending on what we feel like accom;ishing, I also have an Apex'i VAFC-II to install, mainly the PnP Harness for it though. The V1 remote display came in, and I know where I want to put it, little things like that.

Also have lowering springs to throw in.

Anyway, I was thinking maybe the 25th of Feb or the 11th of March. I have a prior engagement on the 4th of March. Sundays are fine with me as well, although the 5th is also not a good weekend. Lets find a date, and I can plan on getting some food for us all. I've got a decent sized grill, or if the weather sucks, we can just order pizza or something.

Oh, and what beer do I need to have on hand?? lol.

I can stop by. If you need the tools to install the springs just let me know and I'll bring them over.

Where are you at in Little Elm. I have a friend that lives behind Lowes. There is a nice NFR over there I've seen a few times.
