Default Soft top replacement

Well, it looks like within the past couple of weeks I've discovered two small holes in my soft top and I'm afraid I have no choice but to look into getting it replaced before either of them get too big to handle. Naturally, I have some questions.

First, has anyone had holes start to appear along the top driver's side edge near and behind the window? one of the spots looks like its in the infamous "triangular brace" area that was causing other people problems on the forums. The other is just barely pinhole sized and is further towards the front of the car. I don't have my digicam handy, but maybe I can take some pics when it's light out to demonstrate. These holes just look like the material stopped holding together, there's not really any wear in the areas around them which I thought was strange.

Second, what are the best deals out there for soft top replacements? I've been to hardtopguy.com and priced a new top, but I have no idea how much labor would be on top of that. While I don't think the holes are natural wear on the top of the car, my chances of getting AHM to foot any of the replacement costs for an '02 out of warranty car are probably just pipe dreams.

Third, anyone here have any experience installing hard tops? I've heard mixed reports as to whether or not this is a one man/shade tree mechanic's kind of job but I'd love to at least help do the work myself if I could so that I know exactly what was done.

Thanks in advance for the help and I hope you guys have better luck with your tops than I have so far.

-Roger

PS: spell check is borked so go easy on me

I looked into this when I owned an '01. At the time, there was a glass top available from Robbins top for about 600.00 I believe Texas Auto Tops in Dallas quoted me a 12-13 hour install for 895.00. I think I am remembering correctly.

They wouldn't even fix my top with a warranty. Said it was "cosmetic normal wear and tear."

On ebay the robbins soft tops were going for a little under $500. My top just developed a small tear and I am also looking into getting it replaced, although I'm going to try to get a glass window top.
