A Split Proposal
Just my .02 but we have a CenTex forum with Austin and San Antonio forum members sharing a much larger geographical area. The informal car clubs and the S2ki forum are not one in the same. The San Antonio group posts local meets and events on the same forum as Austin. The two groups simply place [SA] or [AUS] in their post title as a courtesy. This is not to say the events are exclusive. When the drive is an hour and a half between the cities not all S2000 owners are willing to make the drive for a happy hour. In some cases we host joint events marked as [SA-AUS]. In fact Austin is large enough we try to alternate north and south events or pick a central location.
Over the years we've had occasional calls for "secession". On these occasions the general consensus is the overall amount of participation and post traffic would not merit separate forums. In the case of DFW and the mid-cities it shouldn't be that hard to get along. When I served as a director of the "Dallas" club from 2000-2002 I lived on the east side of Fort Worth. It was always considered "North Texas" and events were held in both counties.
From my experience with car, sailing and aviation clubs over the years I can only offer this advice: Make sure to promote a good balance of events with broad appeal to your membership. Take care to foster new leadership and organizers. It is always easier to simply attend than to plan and host. Try very hard to make your online forum a place people want to visit. Drama tends to turn people off. My hat is off to those that keep the S2000 community growing.
Best regards,
Stefan

Wah wah, join the YellowStarS2K club it's your loss anyway. Ask S2KMozo, he came out to an autocross (even though he didn't like me either) and still had a blast.

I setup the Lewisville meet, and I made it very clear that it was open to other forums and wouldn't be just a S2ki meet. Why? Because I wanted more than 3 or 4 people to show up, and because I have friends in other groups/clubs/forums that like to get together, hang out, and have fun. That meet was NEVER about the cars, it was about the people. I used to drive 50-60 miles one way to meets that lasted for just a couple of hours, because of the people, not the cars. FWIW, I live closer to FW now than Dallas, and I'd still attend meets in Dallas if I actually had the time to go to them. In fact, if I didn't have school and work keeping me busy, I'd still be "hosting" the Lewisville meet, and making the 45 minute drive up there for it, even though I now live in Southwest Arlington.
BTW, you must have forgotten, but I believe I did introduce myself, I know who you are at least
