Winter / Spring Calendar
Now's the time to plan for events while the top down days are still few in number. Put some of your daydreaming to work.
I have already heard some good ideas for the next few months:
Arkansas weekend drive / Bed & Breakfast
Hill Country Drive / Austin Party
Another Auto-X!!!
Club attendance at TWS / Driver's Edge
Dyno Day #3 / Tech Session
Dave & Buster's / Speed Zone
Baja Beach (Lake Benbrook) Shrimp Boil -May '02
Texas Motor Speedway-ALMS races (possible parade lap)
Dallas Auto Show
MADD Rally Day (same day as SoCal and C.Texas events)

All good ideas! I'm game for most of them. I have a couple of additional suggestions below.
Another idea would be a one day drive to Granbury/Dinosaur Valley State Park. Granbury is a nice quaint town, with a restaurant that is known for having some of the "best" fried catfish in Texas. There are also some really nice, twisty roads in the area near Dinosaur State Park.

I'm definitely eager to do another Arkansas road trip. I did the Arkansas trip last October and it was an amazing drive with beautiful fall foliage. A 3 to 4 day trip is really ideal for this drive if you want to go as far North as Eureka Springs (it's worth it). Highway 7 thru the Ouchita Natl Forest/Mountains and the Ozark Mountains is known as one of the most scenic drives in the U.S.

There seems to be and endless amount of twisty roads and great scenery. Both Hot Springs and Eureka Springs are great places to spend some time relaxing, dining, shopping, etc.
I basically did a loop from Dallas E on 30 to 4 thru George Washington State Park to 27/70 to Hot Springs, then spent the night in Russellville. From Russellville drove to Branson, Eureka Springs and then Southwest thru Fort Smith, and south on 69/75 thru Oklahoma/Texas. I did the drive in 2 days (approximately a thousand miles) and was exhausted, but it was worth it.
This would be a great road trip for April/May/June and would be best if done in 3 to 4 days, i.e. leave on Friday am and return Sunday or Monday.
One additional idea would be a group day drive to Turner Falls in Oklahoma. Approx 2 to 2.5 hours north of the metroplex. Check out the link below for additional info.

I enjoy my car every single day, whether it's just commuting or "spirited" driving for fun... I'd certainly enjoy a weekend of driving, especially in some of the locales Ivan listed.
However, my '01 is already at 16k miles from commuting, and taking road trips will rapidly cut the value of the car and time remaining on the warranty. I'd probably go, but it's a tough decision.

I was a little apprehensive at first about putting that many miles on the car, but after making the trip it was worth every mile (well maybe not the ones through Oklahoma at 2a with an abundance of HWY patrol).
Now driving to S2K Days in California would for me definitely be pushing the mileage boundary for the S2K in a single trip.
