Default £1000 for a VSA sensor?!

I'm looking for a nice low mileage S2000 and ideally a facelift pre-06 car, but I didn't want to limit the available car pool so also considering post 06 too.

I've just looked at an '07 car which had the VSA sensor fail and needed replacing for it's last MOT. Apparently Honda wanted £2000 for the part, so the owner bought a reconditioned sensor which still cost £1000.

Now I'm really questioning whether I should be looking at a post 06 car with VSA if this is a typical cost for this sensor, in addition to the £200+ hike in tax.

Is this a known issue, and is that sort of cost typical or was the chap ripped off?

It's a known problem. Here is a thread somewhere about a cheap alternative replacement: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...-saga-1071690/

Thanks LG - that's a little reassuring.

Bear in mind parts for the S are not cheep, the power steering module is £1300, the little net on the door card is £100, and the road tax for cars registered after 23 March 2006 is £520 as you say.
Honda parts don't fail that often but expect to pay plenty when they do.

VSA was an option so you will be able to find one without it.

Is VSA at all desirable?

Having actual experience of S2000s with and without it, I'd say it is desirable. A useful extra comfort blanket for when the roads are wet, meaning the car is a lot more relaxing to drive in those conditions.

It can spoil the slidey about twattery in the dry, but then one probably shouldn't be doing that on a public road anyway. It can be switched off if you want to indulge (as I do from time to time.

Agreed. It helped the girlfriend during some spirited driving in Italy over the last couple of weeks. It provides a degree of comfort during those times when the effects of coffee possibly haven't kicked in.
The sensor is still going strong by the way

For me it's heaven!! Food, drink, hospitality and the roads - oh the roads In the North by any chance?

On the subject of the VSA the light did come back on just before I went to Italy which caused a few concerns. Alas, this was followed by the hand brake light then the ECU.
Turned out a pesky mouse decided to chew through several cables for it's own entertainment . Expensive repair!!

I'd recommend this replaceent VSA unit for sure folks.
