Default air box heat shield

I remember seeing one somewhere but cant remember where. does anyone know who sells them. i`m not after a $400 carbon fibre shield, just something simple to sit between the engine block and air box to prevent it getting hot.

i have already wrapped some thermotec heat sleeving around the flexible intake pipe. it definitely keeps the heat out. other plans to reduce under bonnet temp involve int/ext ceramic coating my ricks manifold and also fitting the hondata gasket. has anyone in the uk fitted the hondata gasket?

also are there any real benefits to fitting the spoon rad cap, thermostat and thermo switch or are the just novelty bits? wasnt sure what the thermo switch did at all!

Cheers
Teb

Where do I start ....

There is a CF Ztec heatsheid but to be honest I dont think it is going to help a great deal.

Hondata gasket is an *intake* gasket and involves quite a bit of work to install.

The Spoon (or Mugen) coolling mods require a rad switch and thermostat. They do make an improvement to the cooling and are mandatory if you plan to run an aftermarket ECU.

Ah, you're right, I think Rick has stopped selling them (I have a vague recollection of Rick selling off the last couple not so long ago)

theyve just completed a GB. it was mentioned on the thread that they come up on the FS forum now n again but they are looking over $200 for em! bit much for a sheet of carbon fibre! could probably knock something up out of metal quite cheaply n get it coated with something to prevent heat transfer.

You can get a tipple layer sheild from http://www.mmrusa.com/HSreflectshield.htm or http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/index...6620b12840b985e
there is also an aluminium/ceramic/aluminium sandwich plate you can buy in 2ft x 2ft sheets its called Nimbus G11 you can find it here http://www.rallyusedparts.co.uk/shop...t%20insulation
this is the same stuff you find formed around CAT and manifolds

I did talk to a company that can spray ceramic heat sheild onto plastic air boxes but they have a minimum charge of

Cheers El. that was the one i must have seen a while back. much more reasonable at $60 but with it made out of metal not sure about the heat transfer. guess i could try it n see. if it gets hot on the opposite side i could get some alumumium/ceramic sheeting that ox has found.
