Attempted break-in...
Just a quick message with some pics to pass on what happened to my S whilst on holiday in France a couple of weeks ago...
My wife and I parked our S in a little village in Provence (Maussane) to go for dinner, we'd parked in the same place a couple of times before and everything seemed fine but on the third night, we noticed some dodgy looking guys snooping around, and driving round the car park at speed in a Vel Satis. Commenting that they looked a bit dodgy, we decided NOT to move the car, since the village was so small there wasn't really anywhere safer that we could have parked...
Anyway, after a couple of hours we walked back to the car park jokingly saying "Let's see if the car's still here then...". It was, but when I popped the boot open with the key fob, I heard a rattling noise and then noticed a gaping hole where the key barrel used to be!
They'd scratched the bootlid and bumper, and cracked the high-level brake light as well.
Luckily, they must have been disturbed because everything was still in the boot...so thanks to the S for holding out long enough for them to give up
Remember to be careful when travelling, foreign cars are easy pickings in tourist spots. The gendarmerie said that another Swiss registered car and one Italian were broken into on the same night as they tried mine.

They made a right mess there didn't they!!
I'd get it de-locked and smoothed over now rather than fit a new bootlid and lock.

Thanks for the advice and offer of help guys, appreciate it.
New bootlid and light's already been done though, we still had two weeks of holiday left and I didn't fancy driving around with a visibly knackered lock.
The guy at the Honda dealership who fixed it said they'd made a right mess of it and was sure they must have been disturbed or they'd have definitely got in.
Think we must have been very lucky...no damage at all to the roof or windows.

Despite the damage sounds like you were very lucky.
Did you have much in the boot at the time?

The next day we went to fill in the incident report at the local police station and they showed us a couple of photos of known car thiefs, one of them we're pretty sure was the driver of the Vel Satis, but same as in England, they know who they are, they know they're regular offenders but they're powerless to stop em

I reckon we should leave a tasty S2000 in a rough side street in say Birmingham, all hide, then soon as the first dodgy character makes his move all pounce and *************************************
Hmm.... dreams.
