Yeah Billy you need to do some trial and error but lifting the main catch by 1-2 mm is about enough. My bonnet stood a little higher than the surrounding metalwork (by a tiny but noticeable amount) for a time, but I fiddled around with it and its flush again - and you don't need to slam the nuts off the bonnet to get it to catch.
Worried the hell out of me at first when MT's CAI didn't fit on my car - most unhappy! Then I was told about adjusting the bonnet catch...
Having installed a couple of these and had no real probs, I'd just say check the following points.
(1) Make sure the CAI is sitting flat on the cross member at the THINNEST part of the CAI. There's very little room between the CAI and the closed bonnet so this point is imperitive!
(2) Check the cross member where the CAI sits. You sometimes get a plastic screw or cable clip (can't remember which) sticking up and stopping the CAI sitting down properly.
(3) If the CAI is sitting properly on the cross member, once it's clamped between the two halves of the airbox it isn't going anywhere, and rad fixing is not necessary IMO. If you've secured the rad end perhaps that's causing the CAI to not seat properly?
The spoon one has to have its trumpet pushed well into the grill bars, partly for location, partly to sit properly.
I could not stand the idea of the bonnet of a Honda NOT fitting flush, so I adjusted the frame (with a ball-pin hammer) so that I did not require closure adjustment.
