Default Average costing for servicing?

I've probably missed it in the FAQ somewhere so forgive me if I have!

I've just been quoted £500 for a service from my local Honda dealer (incl VAT Labour etc).. that includes engine, gearbox and diff oil changes, oil, pollen and air filter changes and a valve clearance check (forgot to ask about plugs and auxillery belts but I can imagine the plugs will be changed too?)

Does this sound a bit much? I've never had my car serviced at a dealer and usually do the job myself but just cant be assed, although I'll probably drop the oil for some Silkolene in a couple months anyway

That leads me on to my other question, I'm not sure where I heard it but am I informed correctly that the standard sump plugs aren't magnetic?

Sounds about right for a dealer price maybe a little high. How many miles have you done as it varies what needs to be done according to age/mileage etc. I use a local guy who has great Honda and Nissan knowledge. Saves me loads of money and I still get my hand book stamped.

Which service is it?

54k should be ~ £500 inc plugs.

If you're being quoted this for a smaller service you're being ripped off.

Ask if you can provide your own oil that is normally one way to save 20/30quid

I think the guy said he'll book it in for a 81,000 service (the cars at around 83,000).

I'm happy for them to use whatever oil for now as its not been changed in a long time, I can then change it out for some decent stuff in a couple months just to clean out the system.

I was expecting around £350 without gearbox oil, but added that to the list for an extra £50 or so as I can't be assed! So I guess its about £100 more than expected

81k service should be around £350-£400. find out if your dealer participates in the s2kuk owners club discount scheme http://www.s2kuk.com/s2kuk/Benefits/Dealers.php , and you might be able to get 10-15% off.

Go to www.s2kuk.com join up and enjoy the discount. The membership fee pays for itself at the first service.

Cheers dudes.. unfortunately the dealer isn't listed there (Inchcape Romford). For the sake of convenience I think I'll stick to them :-)

Might just join up now anyway

Check out the benefits section, there's lots of good money saving to be had there, especially for things like oil and tyres.

i have just paid £180 for a 72k service. First of all they quoted £320 and I said why as the spark plugs should have been changed on the previous. They then said oh ok we will do it for £180.

Feels like they have a bingo ball machine in the background and they just pick a price out of that.

I Wasnt that impressed with the service either

Crown Honda Fixed Priced Servicing

Maybe your dealer would be willing to price match Crown Honda?
