A slight smell of burning rubber from the back of an S after a hard run seems to be a characteristic of the S.

My old one (MY00) always did it and certainly didn't eat its brakes or clutch in its like and it was fairly well used on track.

I'm all up for a bit of burning rubber, but this is definitely not that. It is present on the slowest and shortest of journeys.

Mine does it all the time. Not sure why. I've always wondered if it was the rubber exhaust hangers getting hot?

I often get a hot smell similar to burnt clutch after some " spirited driving", it was suggested that it may be the rear brakes, they do so little work during normal driving that when worked harder they smell a bit.?

Try eating less chili con carne and drinking less beer?

But that would be madness...

Mine always smells after a quick drive. Nothing silly maybe hitting vtec once or twice and no where near the limiter. I took it in to the stealer once and got the usual Shatstone disinterested look and a reply of "they all do that sir".

If you have a look and make sure there is no oil leak from your diff or grease from diff mounts that could be flung onto the exhaust, and check the rear caliper(s) for binding then you can be reasonably sure that it may just be the normal smell.

After an absolute kicking, when I stop the engine an intermittent 'hum' can be heard from the back of the car and that 'hot' smell you mention is also sometimes present.
