Default bonnet catch

my bonnet catch packed in earlier this week and thanks to squeak with help finding threads found the info for sorting it , it was working after a fashion ie the cable was functioning but wouldnt activate the latch the bonnet remained firmly shut . anyway long story short , i did nothing leaving it for the weekend , i went in the house had some grub and came out an hour later to find the bugger open , i had only just been down the motorway im glad i didnt pop then . I know that its firmly latched in the second position but im sure 70mph of air under the lid would have given me a problem , so folks if it doesnt pop first time of asking dont mean that it wont later so be careful out there

Take it off, clean it up (wire brush etc) and grease the springs and moving parts, you should be fine.

Make sure you when you refit that its set nice and high before you bolt it down, this will make the shutting and release easier.

It also helps to allieviate the common problem of the bonnet not shutting in one go, or at all!

Yep keep it lubricated with a nice wodge of grease. Dont forget to drop the bonnet to close it , dont push it shut or you will land up with finger print dents.

I had a simlar problem.
Ended up that the main spring had snapped!
Got a whole new mech from local Honda dealer at a cost of £32.

Only took 10 mins to fit.

£32 is alot better that a replacement bonnet and windscreen should the catch fail at speed!!
