Sell your story to The Sun - they'd love a chance to embarass the authorities.

Graham ... where was this? On Arran?

For someone to stop you at 2mph over the limit, his life must be really pathetic ...

Yes, on Arran. Outside Brodick towards Lamlash... you know the bit.

Trouble is (and in response to some comments) you can't really say anything to the cops who pull you over. First sign of sarcasm or defiance and they'll simply pick you up again. That's the problem here, it's too small a place to stand up for yourself. I have the only black Lexus on the island. They know me as much as they know anyone else. One smart arse comment and they'll be checking my tyres, tax disk and God knows what else. It happens to others, frequently.

They have nothing else to do except hang around the ferry terminal and show off their uniforms.

i2ichal2d, I'd far rather be picked up by one of your cops than one of ours. Yours are polite and courteous.

Some pointers as some people seems to be unaware of things.

the APCO guidelines (10% + 2mph) are GUIDELINES, not rules. A force can choose whether or not to adhere to them. The guidelines are there for them, NOT you. It's to allow tolerances on THEIR equipment. Equipment is getting more accurate so they can more easily prove 32mph now than 5/10 years ago without it getting thrown out of court.

Your speedo may be out, to 10% in some cases BUT NOT underreading. Therefore if you were caught doing 32 mph, your speedo would probably be reading 35mph so you know you were over the limit, albeit not by much.

Yeah, it all stinks and yes it is the 'law', the problem with many police forces is that they stick to the letter of the law rather than the spirit of it. This single point tells me all I need to know about whether a policeman is a good sort or not. Those who go by the letter rather than the spirit have lost why people should become police officers in the 1st place, it's to make the world a better place, not to 'do' as many people as possible, even for trivial offences.

During a recent trip in Switzerland in a hire car I was apparently caught in a radar trap. Just had a letter from Zurich City Hall asking me to pay CHF40 for speeding.....52 kmh in a 50 kmh limit... I kid you not!
I will of course send the cheque by return.

I read on a Lotus forum that someone got caught doing 77 in a 30 IIRC - now that was bad. Unfortunately as he's "establishment" the heart felt plees came out for him. I thought it was disgusting as it was a BUA

As a slight aside and in response to the bike-related posts:

Did anybody know that there's actually an offence called "furious pedalling".

What next ffs......
