Cheers. I eventually managed to find the camera setting for "back-lit" shots.

Dembo will be able to show you where it lives.
Mine lives in the warm and dry. But some have an external box down by the gearbox where it'd likely get submerged.

Maybe it's that, or maybe it's the speed sensor connection itself from the gearbox. Either way, the speed sensor also feeds into the EPS. It's probably fair to assume with the speedo wierdness your CEL is VSS (speed sensor) and the EPS fault is the same, and you have no other problem than that.

Thanks.

So, as the speedo seemed to rectify itself and the EPS light was only on briefly, is it fair to assume that the problem is gone and I just need to do an ECU reset?

Yeah; drowning the add-on junk sounds far more likely than getting to the oEM stuff and so much is speed-dependent, it probably would throw a CEL.

I'd start off down by the gearbox.

You soaked your speedo converter. Its a resistor in a box which converts the pulses from the gearbox from KPH to MPH.

Underneath the gearbox is the connector which feeds the speedo. This will have been cut and the converter will have been fitted there. (At least that's where mine is).

If the resistor fails, the speedo drops to zero and the EPS light comes on shortly after. This then triggers the CEL.

If you read it the code will be P0050 (Vehicle speed sensor).

If the speedo is ok now - disconnect the battery for a few hours and then take the car for a good run.

Hope its sorted soon
