Default Chip

On another forum I've won some dyno time with Thor Racing.

Was after a chip (will have de-cat, exhaust, clutch in by then).

What aftermarket chips would people suggest?

None, they only give a couple of bhp.

The mod police will be along shortly to advise you on how to spend

LOL - ECU's and remaps are a tricky subject.

The 3 main replacement ECU's I can see are Mugen / Spoon / Js Racing and the J's is pick of my list. The Mugen doesnt use the knock sensor and the Spoon is used in conjunction with a lot of other expensive mods. They are plug and play though, but some have issues with immobilisers etc.

Custom mapped ECU's are the next one and then you're into rolling road mapping etc. That's the AEM ecu / HKS Power FC etc..

Remaps... Well the stock ECU has got it pressy sussed and I think unichip are the only piggyback one you will find.

In short, they cost a lot and will not give huge amounts on their own. If youve spent loads on intakes, cams, exhaust etc, then yes they will give further benefit.

But then you realise that a supercharger is the only way there's a guy selling an unused Comptech for $3500 in the US forum

was thinking Unichip .. but Thor don't do them ..

They have Link, Greddy, HKS etc .. and it seems daft to not use my free prize

May just get a Apexi V-tec controller thingy and get them to map the fueling for it ..

Would love an SC, but it's all a bit steep at the moment, just want the car running for Nur @ Easter .. Doesn't want to swap it for an MR2 does he?

Link are good, seen them used a lot on Impreza's.

I still think it will give very little unless you have a full decat and breathing stuff. What exactly have you won? If its prep for the ring then go for a brake upgrade or some stiffening! I wouldnt like to go without brake lines / discs / pads / fluid upgrade.

Do some reading on the VTEC controller, then can do fuelling and VTEC cut in point, but critically they cant adjust the timing - but the stock ECU will still do this to a point. Should be ok on N/A setup.
