Default Cold air to OEM filter

Probably a very daft question, but I'll ask it anyway. How does cold air get to the OEM air filter?

I noticed the air scoop is right at the front of the car, but when you shut the bonnet, surely this stops any air getting through.........................

Air goes through the radiator opening/bumper mouth, hits the air-guide (the black plastic scoop which you pointed out) which is present/starts at the top of the opening (radiator opening/bumper mouth). It then gets guided into the small snorkle on the stock air box, not all of it goes into the airbox though.

Also there are small indentations under the bonnet, just under the snokle part.
