Squeeze the two parts shown together till the U shaped tab pops up then release. They are a good design and can be reused many times.

Thanks leef and chippo that worked a treat but ive got one more question.....I noticed when I had bolted everything back in place I still had slight movement on both drive shafts coming from the diff end. Can you tell me if this is normal to have a small amount of play at that end or have I got more problems brewing?

Thanks again

I would have to go the shed where mine are all assembled on the subframe and check, but what movement do you mean exactly ?

If you move the drive shafts up and down when lying under the car you can feel a slight movement in the shafts and on close inspection you can see the flange that is attached to the diff end that is where its coming from.
Hope that makes sense.

And the answer is , if your get hold of the cups there is a touch of movement , never noticed really before so i must have presumed it was normal. I did have a feel for back lash of which there is very little.
