Default DAB head-units

Does anyone know much about the Pioneer DEH-P90DAB head unit?

Most importantly:

- is it any good?
- will it fit properly in the S2000?
- will I be able to get it to work with the in-dash remote controls?

I've been bitten by the 'DAB' bug with my home setup, and figured that if I was going to upgrade the head unit in the S2000, I may as well go the whole hog and get DAB in the car too.

Thanks

Alex.

Car audio is not my speciality. What is a DAB head unit?

Though I have heard that there are some clever guys in the states who can make any head unit work with your dash controls.

DAB is Digital Audio Broadcasting - have you heard the adverts on the radio with John Peel on them?

The quality is fantastic, and the choice of radio stations is much increased - if you're a music fan then I can whole heartedly recommend DAB over FM radio any day

The Head Unit is the bit that is behind the flap in the dash.

Hope that helps

Alex.

1- High end Pioneer kit is normally quite nice, I used to swear by it but if Pioneer has one failing it is that they always sound a little bright
2. Yep, no worries
3. Yes again. The only snag is that Pioneer headunits only accept remote signals via the Infra-Red receiver on the front of the faceplate. You have 2 options, either buy a PAC-SWI X interface from the USA or get the official Pioneer RF dash control interface. I have this for the wife's Focus and it works a treat. In either instance though you'll need to drill a tiny (read invisible) hole in the top of stereo surround to allow the IR transmitter to see the reciever on the headunit. The part numbers you require are CD-RA201+ and CD-RC217HD - I still have the interconnector kit table that I got these details from but it no longer is published on the web

It might be worth mentioning that you can add DAB to any P series Pioneer headunit (last 5 years or so) with their GEX-P700DAB offboard DAB tuner too It only costs about

Doesn't DABs need a special arial and is the S2K's compactible? I'd hate to spoil the looks of the car by sticking another one on and I too have been bitten by the DABs at home bug.

When I was looking at getting a 1-DIN nav unit I looked at the Pioneer offering and the dealer checked to make sure that a remote adaptor unit was available for the S2000, like the KCE series for Alpine models. I don't have the part number, but if it does exist then you'll at least have the dash controls.

I didn't get my ICE from this guy in the end so I don't know whether he was talking rubbish.

Lucid sells an adaptor which is excellent - it adds more functions to the existing controls, check out Jims site www.lucidautomotive.com he is very helpful if you need any advice on ICE in general
